Fall 2025
Introducing the Shining Stars!
There's something for everyone! 4 programs across grade levels K-12!

Our Program
MYT is a year round theater program for students in grades K-12. Our core staff is composed of educators who meet the needs of each student to help them grow as a performer and individual. We use musical theatre to teach students important life skills such as communication, teamwork, collaboration, and acceptance.
NEW for this year!
We are differentiating our Rising Star program by introducing a new company to our line up: the Shining Stars! Our Rising Stars program will now be for students in K-2, while our Shining Stars for students in grades 3-5. Scroll down to learn more about each program below.
Registering for MYT
Registration for fall is now open!
Y Members: Will be able to register online or on the phone.
Non-members must register for their program membership by visiting the or at the Downtown Meriden Y (110 W Main).
While you do not need to have a full YMCA membership to register for MYT, you will need a "program membership" for $60/year that allows you to participate in Meriden-New Britain-Berlin Y programs throughout the year. Click here to learn about YMCA membership prices.
At MYT, performers register and commit to the production before auditions and the posting of the cast list. Theater is a team activity and we do theater not to be the lead, but to be part of a community doing what we love. We truly beleive each role is important! After all, "it's not how big a part you get, it's how big you make your part."
For first time participants:
If you are new to MYT, please fill out this Google Form AFTER you register with the YMCA. Click here.

Auditions
Auditions will be held before rehearsals begin. Auditions are held in groups and are a fun and positive experience. At auditions, we will call forward anyone who is interested in auditioning for a particular role and have each student sing or read the audition selections. Students sing along with the rehearsal tracks and may use a script. Audition materials will be made available online 1 week before auditions to those who have registered with the YMCA. If you cannot attend audition day, performers may send in an audition video. Students will get their script at the first rehearsal.
We will have a parent meeting on audition day or the first rehearsal (TBD). The first part will be for important updates for all families. The second part will be for new families to learn about how things run at MYT. Returning families may leave after the first segment or stay for a refresher!
Rehearsals
Rehearsals will be held Saturday or Sunday, depending on program at the MYT Rehearsal Hall (14-16 W Main). An adult must come up to the building to pick up students who are under 13 years of age.
Students must wear sneakers and bring their script, pencil, water, and a snack to each rehearsal.
Performances
Since 2009, MYT has performed it's spring and fall productions at Edison Middle School. We are thankful for a great partnership with Meriden Public Schools and are proud to support the drama productions at all Meriden schools.
Costumes
While MYT has our own costume shop, families will need to provide certain costume pieces for their performer. Sometimes these can be found in your closet, other times you'll need to get something at a store or online. Any costume pieces provided by MYT must be returned at the end of the show. Any pieces you provide, you keep!
A costume document will be sent out 1 month before the show detailing what pieces MYT is providing and what you are responsible for providing.
Families are also responsible for providing the proper footwear as listed in the costume document. Footware varies based on the show and role. Sometimes it's as simple as sneakers, other times students will need black jazz shoes, and every once in a while someone needs ruby slippers!
Each child will need a plastic "costume tub" to organize their costume and belongings backstage.
Additional Fees/Costs
In addition to providing costume and footwear (listed above), families and friends will also need to purchase tickets to each performance.
Some families also chose to support MYT with an annual GOLD or SILVER sponsorship. We use the money from these donations to purchase snacks for the concession table and cover show expenses. As a thank you for your support, families who sponsor MYT get special perks, like early access to ticket sales and performer headshots/bios in the program.
Rising Stars: Grades K-2
Designed just for our youngest performers, this program will introduce students to the fundamentals of singing, reading music, dancing, acting, and performing. Each rehearsal will include 4 rotations: music (where students will learn how to read and understand music), acting (where students will play theater games to build acting skills), art (where students will make crafts in the Art Garage), and rehearsal (where students will put together their presentation).
The Rising Star presentation will be "& then." Where we will read a story and ask students the question "and then..." The cast will work together to come up and imagine what might happen next.
In developing this program, we looked comprehensively at all our students grades K-12. We asked ourselves, what skills could we teach early on that would benefit students when they get to be a Shining Star or in the Junior Company? These are the very skills we want to start building with our youngest performers this fall. We can't wait to start our theater education journey together! Join us!

Our newest program is ready to launch! A combination of workshops and rehearsals, this program is designed to put together a great show, while also teaching students the essentials of theater to ensure they are ready for their next steps as performers. Students will join the Rising Stars for 90 minutes of workshops in music (learning to read music and understand notes, rhythms, and scales), acting (theater games to teach acting essentials and build skills like spacial awareness, character, teamwork, and improv), and art.
The remainder of the rehearsal time will be spent preparing for our 30 minute Shining Star production: The Music Man KIDS!
There's trouble in River City when a fast-talking salesman gets his heart stolen by the town librarian in this adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway classic.
Based on Meredith Willson's six-time-Tony-Award-winning musical comedy, The Music Man KIDS features some of musical theatre’s most iconic songs and a story filled with wit, warmth and good old-fashioned romance. The Music Man KIDS is family entertainment at its best — a bold, brassy show that will have the whole town atwitter!
Master showman Harold Hill is in town and he’s got “seventy-six trombones” in tow. Can upright, uptight Marian, the town librarian, resist his powerful allure? The story follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band he vows to organize. The catch? He doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, whose belief in Harold’s power just might help him succeed in the end in spite of himself.

Our Junior Company will produce the 60 minute musical: Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer JR! In addition to preparing for our production, we will also focus on singing, reading music, dance, acting, and performance skills during rehearsals.
Rudolph saves Christmas and goes down in history in the Broadway Junior version of this family classic!
The holiday classic soars off the screen in this Broadway Junior, 60-minute musical adaptation of the beloved television special. Filled with holiday hits like "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "A Holly Jolly Christmas," Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer™ JR. features all of your favorite characters including Santa and Mrs. Claus, Hermey the Elf, Bumble the Abominable Snow Monster, Clarice, Yukon Cornelius and, of course, Rudolph. It’s an adventure that teaches us that what makes you different can be what makes you special.
Because of his shiny nose, Rudolph doesn't feel like he belongs in Christmastown and sets off to find a place that accepts him. Along his journey, he encounters fellow misfits, only to realize that home is where he has belonged the whole time. When a storm threatens to keep Santa's sleigh from taking flight, it's up to Rudolph to save Christmas!

Ever since Lindsay and Joe saw Once Upon a One More Time on Broadway, we couldn't wait for it to be available for licensing. It's the perfect Jukebox musical for our teens: a hilarious laugh out loud script, a concert like atmosphere powered by Britney, and pop star choreography for days.Powered by the chart-topping hits of the undisputed Princess of Pop, Once Upon A One More Time turns our favorite fairytales upside down with a clever twist! When a fairy godmother goes rogue and plops copies of The Feminine Mystique in the laps of classic heroines, the damsels embark on a quest to rewrite their stories and redefine “happily ever after.”
Once Upon A One More Time weaves 23 of Britney Spears’ smash singles—like “Crazy,” “Oops!…I Did It Again,” “Circus,” “Lucky,” and “Toxic”—into “a big, modern, musical dance party, with Britney’s beating heart at its core.” (ABC News) License this jukebox fantasy come true!
